Renewable Energy Directive (EU) 2018/2001
The revised Renewable Energy Directive (EU) 2018/2001, adopted in December 2018, establishes an overall policy for the promotion and use of energy from renewable sources in the European Union including ILUC. It sets limits on high ILUC-risk biofuels, bioliquids and biomass fuels with a significant expansion in land with high carbon stock and introduces exemptions.
ILUC
Indirect Land Use Change is a process in which the agricultural land, forests, wetlands are being changed to cultivate the biofuels crops. This causes an increased release of the CO2 stored in trees and soil and therefore negatively impacts the greenhouse gas savings.
Carbon Footprint
At Fuel Trade we promote higher degrees of energy and material efficiencies. Increased usage of waste feedstock in the production of biofuels and optimized supply chain helps decreasing the carbon footprint of the industry.
ISCC
ISCC plays a critical role in working towards a more sustainable word by helping to implement fully traceable supply chains that are free of deforestation.
At Fuel-Trade we promote all ISCC principles: Principle 1: Protection of land with high biodiversity value or high carbon stock. Principle 2: Environmentally responsible production to protect soil, water and air Principle 3: Safe working conditions Principle 4: Compliance with human, labor and land rights and responsible community relations Principle 5: Compliance with applicable laws and relevant international treaties Principle 6: Good management practices and commitment to continuous improvement
